The amount of but hurt on the BMWBlog mainpage article is very amusing to me. Don't get me wrong it would be awesome to own a 2M but the fact that they don't think people will cross-shop the gt350 with BMW's is laughable.

I'd take the GT350 over the beemer any day. Both seem like great cars but the Stang just interests me more.

Reading all of that is a hell of a lot more entertaining than being forced to watch "Frozen" with all of the women in my family over Thanksgiving. My only regret is that the article wasn't published sooner.

Oh most certainly. I'm a Mustang guy but have pined for an M3 for years. But (for less money) that Shelby would find a spot in my garage. I actually just wrote about this too:

You must've misread the article.
Ford's high-rev flat-plane V8 is sure to be a gem of a powerplant. It subscribes to BMW's former high-rev engine philosophy in M cars of generations past. I'm not the only BMW aficionado who misses the wailing 8,400 rpm redline of the E92 M3, or the 8,250 rpm scream of the E60 M5's V10 – thousands of BMW fans miss the high-rev character of previous M engines . The GT350 may have more E46 M3 character in it than the M4 does, and this could swing some M4 shoppers to the dark blue side.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
It appears that Ford have perfected the GT350 such that it will leave little to be desired, and like a few other aforementioned exceptional cars, its shortcomings will be easily overlooked in light of its brilliant strengths and exotic persona.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
I'm going to go out on a limb and predict that the GT350 will be hailed as one of the best new performance cars of 2015, able to take the fight to the Europeans.
The article is positively gushing about the GT350.
But of course, that's not how it works in your world. In your world, every other brand has to adhere to a stereotype. BMW are snobs. All of them. If BMW launches a good car, you come along to say 'good car, but only douchebags buy them'. If Ford launches a good car, you come along to say 'look at BMW douchebags being butthurt'. You're not even happy that Ford launches a good car, you're just happy that you can make a new post about BMW being snobs or douchebags.
You're the one that misses out by not looking past the brand, and your childish world view.

I am undoubtedly a BMW fan, and I like the news from BMW Blog and that's why I have them on my RSS. But these butthurt articles I skip immediately.
When they repost comparison tests they just outline what's positive on the BMW and despise the rest. It's almost infantile behavior as it seems. If you like something you can't just pretend bad things don't exist. It's like they see it as a perfect machine and the competition just tries to compare itself to it.

Did you bother to read the comments? The article wasn't the source of my amusement.
Let me guess, you are a BMW fan?
I enjoy pretty much all brands, it's the mindless fanboys that are annoying.

I don't know about that. I'm a Mustang guy but I don't see anyone who wants an M2 thinking they'll go and check out a gt350 instead. Just like I don't see someone with their heart set on a gt350 deciding to go checkout an M2. There may be customers who have no idea what they want that will go check out a bunch of cars but the vast majority of actual gt350 buyers (not dreamers, buyers) will not have seriously considered an M2 and vice versa. Sure I'd love to have either one but the people that have the money and are going to spend it on a specialty model know exactly which one they want.

I used the M2 as an example of a BMW I would like to own, not as the BMW that is going to be cross-shopped with the GT350, that is pretty clearly the M3/M4.

I was under the impression that you were talking about the article. I didn't bother to read the comments on bmwblog. Forgive my negative tone. I got a bit carried away. I am not a BMW fan, I'm a car fan. One that's, like you, annoyed by fanboys co-opting a new car as just a vehicle to bash/laud based on brand perception.

Serious shoppers of either car won't be seriously shopping the other. There might be one or two outliers who test drive both, but they are different cars competing for different money.

The comments are full of fanboys from both sides, although the BMW side is much more offended, Mustang guys are just excited it is going to be a close comparison. Much like the TST comparo between the Fiesta ST and the E46 M3, the BMW fans are offended that their car isn't perfect.

It's mostly true though. People buying solely on performance will cross-shop them, but the vast majority of people shop for other things like brand cachet, materials, heritage, mystique, blah blah blah. Those guys will be squarely in one camp or the other and will not cross-shop.

I think you will be surprised, the type of person who would buy an M4 is not that different from a GT350 buyer.

They're so completely different though, I just don't see it happening with the people that will actually buy them. It's like cross shopping a decked out Jeep Wrangler and whatever Range Rover model is close in price. If you mean a few people may cross shop, I'll agree with that but if you mean most buyers or even 20% of the buyers will cross shop I have to respectfully disagree.

Well yeah that's always true, but clearly there are enough people that it's going to happen.

I would say it's more like cross-shopping a Jeep Grand Cherokee, which is something people will do, even if they end up getting a LR. The kind of person who cross shops an RS car to an M car is going to include the ATS-V/CTS-V and the GT350 in their test drives.

True.
Whenever I read internet comments that say absolutes like 'never' or 'nobody' I internally personalize them for the author.
So a statement written like "Nobody will cross-shop these" becomes "I wouldn't cross-shop these" as I read it.

I own BMWs and seriously looked at the Boss 302, however, the problem is not the car, but the dealership network - which sucks. I owned new Fords up until 2013. I was sick and tired of the constant up-sell by the service writers for non-factory maintenance such as fuel injector cleaning (the manual on my car said NOT to do it this, but the dealership was relentless and said the car didn't have a fuel filter (it does) and that our gas is "dirty". No amount of complaining, even to Ford corporate could stop them. I dumped the Fiesta and moved on to BMW.
In defense of the article, the guy really seemed to like the Ford, particularly the idea of a flat plane crank. I thought the videos must've been of the a GT350's suspension, body, etc..., but not the engine. It didn't sound like a flat plane crank engine to me. It had too much burble.

LOL! I didn't read the comments. Still, that GT-350 is lingering in my mind. But, I'm pretty sure I'll either get an M2 or M4 next. I've driven all manner of cars and I keep coming back to the Bavarians.

I mean I didn't hate it, I like disney musicals as much as the next person (hell, the first time I took out my future wife we saw Tangled because the movie I had planned to see was sold out) it just surprises me it struck such a chord. I assume part of the reason is one of the princesses didn't end up with a guy at the end?

Depending on how much money I make in the future I could potentially see myself in an M2 type car (used or equivalent) but I am very anti-badge snobbery so it would have to be a very good car for me to make that leap.

I can't say I'm anti-badge snobbery, if I'm being honest, but my bigger deal is the dealer. My BMW dealer is fantastic. I had to have my 135i worked on. There were no loaners left. BUT, what they did was work really hard and fast to get my car done that day. They lived up to the promise and I was good to go. My former Ford dealer didn't even offer loaner cars, that I knew of.
